Almost done with our busiest online Valentines week ever, following on from our busiest January online ever?! To say I'm exhausted is an understatement, but very happy that all orders are now dispatched, bar a couple of Bristol addresses which I'm delivering myself tomorrow 🚚 If you don't receive Royal Mail tracking email by tonight drop me an email (with your postcode!) as some peoples spam filters are munching them up. ⁣

The webshop is still open for dispatch Tuesday, after which I'll be taking a little break for some R&R (and DIY 😒).⁣

I'll say my usual guff about Black Fri. There's always a lot of back-and-forth, including boycotts and some biz shaming. While I agree with the broadly anti-consimerist message I disagree with thinking less of businesses who do choose to take part. I handmake every single item to order, which means we don't have a stockpile of 'stuff' ready to be discounted, we really don't make much money once you take off the discount, PayPal fees, ingredients, time etc. HOWEVER! We have been participating since we opened the website (5 yrs this month, HBD webshop!) and understand that it's a great time for our lush loyal customers to grab a bargain during a very hard time at a very expensive time of year, AND to encourage people who have wanted to buy our goodies for ages but haven't been able to, for whatever reason, at the full price. I'll be buying from small businesses during this period, and as much as I'd bloody love to pay full price for everything, times is tough and a little discount goes a long way.

We live in a capitalist society, love it or loath it, and I do believe in literally putting your money where your mouth is and spending money where it matters. With small businesses. On sustainable items. With local makers. It takes a bit more planning than scrolling through Amazon but it's super worth it. You'll have better quality 'stuff' and you could literally make the difference between a small business making it to 2021 or not (HINT check @bristol.market for some ideas!)

Just because I'm participating with Black Friday doesn't align me with Jeff fking Bezos, it aligns me with the other small businesses who are using it to kick start the final pre-Christmas push before we close our diaries and wonder what the heck 2021 has in store.

Spend money wisely, we'll all love ya for it!
